The pandemic didn’t stop Dr. Brand from opening his practice in northeast Pennsylvania. Despite supply disruptions, limited staffing and the challenges of building a practice from scratch, Dr. Brand, alongside his father (also a dentist) and his fiancée (a hygienist), successfully opened his doors this January. He embraces a fully digital workflow, too, including Digital Smile Design and 3D printing.
“OptraGate by Ivoclar Vivadent—an absolute game changer for anterior procedures, scanning and photography. By retracting the lips from the teeth comfortably and efficiently, it improves your vision and access enormously.”
“3D printing. I have two 3D printers at my office and routinely use them for in-house surgical guides, models, wax-ups and many other procedures.”
“During downtime, spend time at the front with the office manager of the practice where you work, and learn as much as you can from them. There’s a massive disconnect between the clinical and business skills you learn in school. When you open your own office, understanding how insurance works, as well as the duties of your support staff, will prove invaluable and enhance your role as a leader.”
