M.E. and DDS, the University of Missouri–Kansas City
WHY HE WAS NOMINATED:
When Dr. Jackson isn’t working a 12-hour shift at his practice, you can find him mentoring others, spending time with his family (he has four children under age 9) or doing outdoor activities such as wakeboarding or riding his dirt bike. He performs at least one large pro bono cosmetic case each year, volunteers for Missouri Mission of Mercy and regularly donates supplies to silent auctions and mission trips.
“Always try to put yourself in someone else’s shoes. No one gets to decide the life they’re born into, but we do get to decide what to do with it. Take what skills you’ve been given and use them to help others.”
MOST MEMORABLE PATIENT:
“A middle-aged man who had been missing three anterior teeth since he was a teenager. He learned to smile with only one side of his mouth to try to hide the space. I restored the missing teeth with implants and crowns. When we gave him a mirror, he started crying and realized he could barely move his lip on the newly restored side to see his new teeth. I told him to work on it, and in a few months he would be fully smiling for the first time in his adult life. He came back to see us and show us his bright, full smile. It was a great day for everyone.”
