Why She Was Nominated:
While studying for her undergraduate degree at Spelman College in Atlanta, Dr. Chukwu was a Bonner Community Service Scholar, volunteered at schools and dental offices, and was the cofounder and president of the Spelman Pre-Dental Institute. She continued her good works while attending Howard University College of Dentistry in the nation’s capital, participating in a number of community outreach initiatives, including Give Kids a Smile Day and the Robert Wood Johnson Summer Medical and Dental Enrichment Program, where she mentored future dentists. Currently, Dr. Chukwu is a part-time adjunct faculty member at Howard’s Department of Pediatric Dentistry.
