Amanda M. Sheehan

  • Waterford, Michigan

Age:

36

Name of Practice:

Oakland Family Dental

Education:

DDS, State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine

Why She Was Nominated:

Dr. Sheehan travels often to the Dominican Republic on mission trips, is on the Michigan Academy of General Dentistry board and served pro bono for eight years on a local hospital’s head-and-neck tumor board. She’s a Diplomate in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, a Diplomate in the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and a Master in the AGD. Though she was raised on the West Coast, Dr. Sheehan put down roots near her family in Michigan, where she opened her Detroit-area practice in 2016.

Why She Became a Dentist:

“I had an obsession with teeth from a young age, making retainers out of paper clips in elementary school. I always wanted to be a doctor and was the ‘fix-it girl’ growing up, so dentistry was a natural fit for me.”

Something People Don’t Know:

“I met my husband while he was on vacation, and I on a dental mission, in the Dominican Republic. Also, in college, I was an avid online gambler and could be found on weekends playing in Texas Hold ’Em tournaments.”
