From April 5 to 8, Dr. Richard Jay Kim, shown at top right, visited Harvard University in Massachusetts for an event that reunited alumni from around the world.

Attendees of the Master in Health Care Management (MHCM) Forum Reunion participated in an educational forum at Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health during which alumni, faculty, guests and presenters gathered to discuss a unique program in healthcare. This year’s Forum Reunion celebrated Dr. Nancy Kane, co-director of the Master in Health Care Management and David Javitch. Both are retiring from the Master in Health Care Management program at the end of this year.

Among those in attendance, Dr. Kim, a 2018 Incisal Edge 40 Under 40 honoree,  who participated in Harvard University’s Master in Health Care Management program after earning his dental degree.

“I learned how to grow stronger not only as a dental professional, but as a better human individual,” said Dr. Kim, regarding his time at Harvard.

The Forum had an outstanding turnout of 110 attendees from all over the world, he noted.

“The alumni and faculty are world-renowned innovators in health care and they will travel from all over the world to discuss and mentor physicians like me to guide health care policies and make access to health care a human right.”

Dr. Kim believes that continuing education helps him ensure his dental patients receive the best care. Much of this outlook comes from his unique and interactive time in the program at Harvard and from the mentors who he said truly guide those in the Health Care Management Master’s Program.

The April weekend was filled with discussions and panels, and social and networking events.

“Utilizing Harvard’s case-based teaching method, combined with extensive peer collaboration, the degree program keeps clinical executives and administrators on top of trends, issues and competitive strategies unique to the modern health care system,” said Kim.

“It allows participants to continue working full-time while pursuing this degree, and to interact with peers from across the globe,” said Dr. Kim.

Sharing his talents across the globe

Mission trips to Mexico, Africa, Guatemala and Korea — Dr. Richard Kim has ventured around the globe to assist others and further his knowledge of dentistry.

“I have been blessed to meet and work hand in hand with physicians from Canada, Europe, Africa, Asia, Lebanon. It is refreshing and reviving to know that there are physicians like me who share similar experiences and understanding of how to make the world a better place for all mankind.”

He uses his voice as a dental professional to educate people on the importance of dental care to overall health.

As Co-Preventive Dentistry Officer at Mosier Troop Medical and Dental Clinic in Fort Lee, Virginia, he has been able to put in place service activities throughout the Fort Lee community that promote health and wellness.

He has dedicated his efforts to Operation Smile, a program that brings care to indigent children and young adults around the world.

Previously, Dr. Kim assisted pediatric dentists in the operating room at Children’s Hospital of Boston (Harvard).

He attributes much of what he’s been able to accomplish to dedicated mentors, and a personal commitment to furthering his education and learning more.

“Under the guidance of dedicated mentors I was able to become a versatile individual who continues to preserve and dedicate myself to learning, be able to share that knowledge with others, and maintain a drive for excellence in everything I do,” said Dr. Kim.
